Asbestos worker’s family awarded $9M in mesothelioma lawsuit
A jury in Texas has awarded a $9 million verdict to the family of a former asbestos worker who died of mesothelioma. Jurors found that Robert Henderson was exposed to asbestos while working at a Dow Chemical plant in Midland, Michigan and at Alcoa Inc., which caused him to develop mesothelioma.
Mesothelioma is a deadly form of cancer that is caused by exposure to asbestos. Many workers who were employed at oil refineries, chemical plants and other jobsites have developed mesothelioma or other diseases as a result of asbestos exposure.
According to the lawyers for the Henderson family, thousands of other workers may have been exposed to asbestos at the Dow Chemical plant where Henderson worked. Dow has filed motions to overturn the verdict in Henderson’s mesothelioma lawsuit, alleging that he may have been exposed to asbestos at other jobsites.
